“…The MC said, came from the mellowed-out track “Houstonaltantavegas,” which appeared on his 2009 breakout mixtape So Far Gone. On the song, Drake created a fictional world, describing a love affair with an ambitious stripper who can’t quite get out of the life. “It was a world that was very much real to me, but I created it in my mind. It was a world that, being a kid from Toronto, I used to look at from the outside…”

I won’t lie – ever since the video for J*DaVeY’s song “Queen of Wonderland” found its way onto these internets, I’ve felt teased. Because “Queen” was the first sign of New Designer Drug, the pair’s follow-up to the short yet absolutely sweet Evil Christian Cop: The Great Mistapes EP; but for a while, sans J*DaVeY’s twitter page occasionally attempting to trend “#NDD,” it was also the ONLY sign of the new album.

Thankfully, we now have more in the form of the album cover art for New Designer Drug and a tracklist as well, courtesy of Miss Jack Davey and Brook D’Leau themselves. DJ Drama has a reputation to uphold. His first two solo albums have been critically maligned with a few saving graces here and there (he did after all give us “The Art Of Storytelling Pt. 4″). His mixtape output on the other hand? The stuff of legends with T.I., Young Jeezy & Lil Wayne. Why has that not translated to success on the album front can be attributed to numerous factors including DJ Khaled using the same “multiple hood anthems” formula for his albums. Nevertheless, Drama pushes on with his third solo effort, Third Power set to hit store on October 11th.

The guest list for TP is yet again another assortment of heavyweights with the lead single “Oh My” still obtaining a bit of radio play. “I’m On One” may have clipped its wings but packaging the rest of the album with the likes of J. Cole, 2 Chainz, Maino, Pusha T, Gucci Mane, Wale & the Philly super team of Meek Mill, Young Chris & Freeway should hopefully rectify all of that.
