In rap, there’s being on the scene, a noteworthy name and then there’s making the leap. That leap comes equipped with explosive buzz, gaudy praise and the creation of a ceiling. At the moment, Dante Higgins doesn’t have a ceiling. As a schoolboy, Higgins has all the common man appeal you and I may have as regular joes and considering that he’s a rapper just amplifies it all.

“Glory” the first leak from Higgins upcoming debut album finds him flanked with Reggie Jamz (who channels every John Legend chorus ever) and by all means relishing in the fact that he’s next up. Punchlines about taking a haters gal and going so far as to be inside of his house naked with said hater’s woman taking pictures is not only a shot, it’s down right hilarious. Higgins will no doubt delve deeper into the narrative when the Dante Higgins Story drops on March 6th.

Like you needed additional incentive to check out Drake, A$AP Rocky, and Kendrick Lamar on the “Club Paradise” tour. But in the event you just might have, Aubrey dropped via his Vimeo last night a nice little promotional video for the tour.

While it’s highly likely that model Kyra Chaos won’t be onstage during the tour, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a tad appreciative of the eye candy… and, admittedly, jealous because Aubrey picked quite the dangerously-curved woman to go to work on Take Care’s hate to love it track, “Practice.” Word to #DatAss (and kindly forgetting Mr. Graham’s abrupt entrance called to mind an awkward attempt to turn the video into a porn flick something it was not).

Through his Little Rock eyes, SJ Jones combines lyricism and a sense of awareness in the visual for “Actin’ Bad” off of his Flight Risk mixtape. Steadily gripping the wheel of his old school Chevy, Jones takes us through the city and his daily interactions. All without compromising a single thing about him.

While the world is still stiff armed by STS and his Gold Rush mixtape, another weekly flip should quench the thirst of those looking for more Sugar Tongue Slim. “Great Mood” features skittering drums and rapid paced delivery as STS & Ferg of the A$AP movement trade bars over a high end sample of Rick Ross’ verse from “That Way”.

With the first video from Blue Magic, Doughbeezy brings us, “Grind”. The video directed by Be EL Be begins with Dough having words with a “Promoter” and continues to tell us about dealing with shady promoters, who won’t pay him for drawing a crowd, and lastly the rappers who keep bugging him about doing a verse for their mixtape. Doughbeezy’s “Grind” is obviously to see, and his dwindling double-time delivery & the smokey Sade sample keeps the listener more than engaged. Blue Magic drops March 1st.

Sitting on a stoop, sipping on some Old E with a sneer and distaste for authority. No, it’s not a deleted scene from Ice Cube’s role in Boyz In The Hood, that’s the depiction of L.E.$. in “Regulate” where he snatches Nate Dogg & Warren G’s seminal classic and takes it for a joyride around the block. Even Menace with its cartoonish artwork reminds us that L.E.$. could be the light skinned version of O’Shea Jackson. He might have to talk to Killer Mike to see if he can take on the role sans any color or creed though.
