Common Ends Beef With Drake

February 13, 2012 in Interviews

At least Touré asked Lonnie Lynn the question we all wanted to know like a few weeks ago. On the Grammy red carpet last night, Common discussed his short lived feud with Drake proclaiming that it’s indeed over. Anybody else feel like we fell for this thing hook line & sinker?

Drake On Common: “[He]‘s Targeting Me For Sharing My Story”

January 30, 2012 in Interviews

And now we can officially call the beef dead. Drake spoke with nation from Nah Right over the weekend while on the set of The Weeknd’s “The Zone” video and finally dusted off his answer towards a potential salvo towards Common:

So people want to know: will you respond to Common?
No. Because despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a “hip hop moment” or a “battle for the sake of musical integrity”…it’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album. More than anything it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story.

As it stands, the so called “beef” was quite lackluster only springing a few neat lines here and there, Canada Dry getting its biggest publicity shot in years and Vanessa Bryant somehow ended up in the crosshairs.

The classic hits of hip-hop always have a story behind them and MC Shan’s story about not appearing on Marley Marl’s “The Symphony” is damming. DJ Pocket sat down with the former Juice Crew member discussing Masta Ace’s statement on why Shan didn’t want to appear on the classic posse cut. Not only does Shan discuss the issue, he drops bombs about none of the artists getting paid for the record but also that Marley Marl took credit from Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie and others who did their own beats.

The League Of Extraordinary G’z Soldier On

December 22, 2011 in Interviews

The League from Austin, the travelling band of rap crusaders with individual voices collective tossed together to sound like a megaphone have gone through it in 2011. Highs & lows. Documenting some of it first hand has been a treat and in other regards, a painful note to etch out.

2011 was supposed to be a banner year for the League of Extraordinary Gz. Media publications outside of this one, much larger ones at that were giving them the space to say their peace. Aggressive, forthcoming and refusing to adhere to any standard set before them, it was cheery to see them take what they saw was their without questioning, without asking really. All those notions you’re told as a kid not to do, they did it and no one could deny it.

Back home for a chance interview with Digiwaxx, the group discussed those highs of travelling all over the country to perform as well as the biggest low, losing Esbe Da 6th Street Bully unexpectedly in October.

A Slightly Comprehensive Look At The Drake/Common “Beef”

December 20, 2011 in Features, Freestyles, Interviews

All it takes is one media run for everything to finally come out in the open. Common came Sway & Dev’s spot on Shade 45 to finally name the intended target for his not-so subtle shots on “Sweet”.

Those jabs were meant for Drake as Lonnie addressed as such, adding to an already well established list of vets who don’t take too kindly to the actions of the YMCMB sweater king. While Aubrey didn’t respond directly in an interview or on song, his main producer Noah “40″ Shebib did make a couple of statements on Twitter questioning the “softness” of the man formerly known as Common Sense.

After “one day it’ll all make sense” came out I spent months arguing weather or not @ was hip hop. Everyone was saying it was too rnb.

@, I remember being called a bitch in grade 9 cause I had your cd. Good thing I also had 456 by kool g rap on me. Now that’s real ;)

Despite the fact that Drake was rumored to be bedding Serena Williams, who was recently linked to the Chicago emcee, it’s obviously more than “touched feelings with women” that caused this sparring session to occur. Then of course there’s the subliminal shots laid out on stage a few nights ago:

Waka Flocka On Wiz Khalifa: “He’s All Hype”

December 14, 2011 in Interviews

Also, pot meet kettle and discuss your color schemes.
