Joe Budden – No Church In The Wild (Freestyle)

January 26, 2012 in Freestyles, The Leak

Using his favorite medium as an outlet to stream a new freestyle, Joe Budden tackles The Throne’s latest single with a wide range of current event references in the vein of the Old School Mouse days. Joe Paterno, Kyle Williams of the San Francisco 49ers, Billy Cundiff, the Drake/Common beef all get used for the Slaughterhouse founders assault, reminding those of us who are Budden fans why we’re fans in the first place.

I don’t think Josh Howard ever recovered from Joey’s barbs over the “Crazy” instrumental back in ’06.

A Slightly Comprehensive Look At The Drake/Common “Beef”

December 20, 2011 in Features, Freestyles, Interviews

All it takes is one media run for everything to finally come out in the open. Common came Sway & Dev’s spot on Shade 45 to finally name the intended target for his not-so subtle shots on “Sweet”.

Those jabs were meant for Drake as Lonnie addressed as such, adding to an already well established list of vets who don’t take too kindly to the actions of the YMCMB sweater king. While Aubrey didn’t respond directly in an interview or on song, his main producer Noah “40″ Shebib did make a couple of statements on Twitter questioning the “softness” of the man formerly known as Common Sense.

After “one day it’ll all make sense” came out I spent months arguing weather or not @ was hip hop. Everyone was saying it was too rnb.

@, I remember being called a bitch in grade 9 cause I had your cd. Good thing I also had 456 by kool g rap on me. Now that’s real ;)

Despite the fact that Drake was rumored to be bedding Serena Williams, who was recently linked to the Chicago emcee, it’s obviously more than “touched feelings with women” that caused this sparring session to occur. Then of course there’s the subliminal shots laid out on stage a few nights ago:

Kirko Bangz – Daddy Freestyle

December 20, 2011 in Freestyles, The Leak

Kirko Bangz goes in over the beat from Juelz Santana’s “Daddy” in this latest leak of his. Bangz joins the trend of rappers entering into emotionally-charged reflections about their family (see, Don Trip’s “Letter to My Son,” J. Cole’s “Breakdown,” and Drake’s “Look What You’ve Done”), using the mic to aurally write a letter back to his father in prison.

It really was over the minute Kirko redefined a certain popular prison phrase to fit his motivation for rapping. But for those who may have thought Bangz was a one-trick pony who could only perform something for the club, this “Daddy” freestyle should silence his critics and give Bangz supporters something to rejoice about yet sympathize with.

This joint will allegedly make it onto on Bangz’s upcoming Progression 2: Young Texas Playa mixtape, which is on its way next year.

Kirko Bangz – The Motto x Poppa Was A Playa

November 27, 2011 in Freestyles

Kirk Randle shines through. The “Drank In My Cup” star figured it was best to come back to what got him to the dance in the first place and that’s spittin’. Here he drops off two quick freestyles, including one over Drake & Weezy’s “The Motto”.

Killa defies the odds (and Just Blaze’s claims of not releasing the instrumental) by going through Drake & Rick Ross’ “Lord Knows” and discusses how high his drank bill is. In different hues of green & red, Killa looks ferociously pissed off throughout, even with a Best Mixtape award on his mantle. Shot by Be EL Be.

The Continuing Saga Of Justin Bieber Raps

November 18, 2011 in Freestyles, Top Posts

There are things that move the needle in pop culture. Tim Tebow mystifying everyone with his ‘Rainman’ attempts at playing quarterback in the NFL, people who keep thinking any of the Republican nominees for President won’t trip over their own feet come election time and Justin Bieber.

We dabble in a bit of “phenomenon watching” here (see Mac Miller) so letting our eyes gauze upon the fact that Hot 97 allowed Justin Bieber to shill raps over GangStarr’s “DWYCK” instead of a Christmas album doesn’t surprise us. The spectra of whether or not these freestyles of his were ghostwritten however, does.

Here, Bieber makes a reference to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off which by my estimations came out before he was even thought of but that’s fine. Most rappers these days name drop things they barely pass by in GQ or any upscale magazine and claim to have so what’s the difference? Hip-hop wants to see actual proof that he wrote said rhymes and for the good of it’s consciousness wished it’s media (read: people like us) would stop giving such things coverage.

Let’s not get confused here, Bieber for all intents and purposes can “rap” in the literal sense. It’s only serving the world as a warning that when his eventual rap/pop hybrid album does drop sometime in the near future and sells almost 2 million in the first week that we were there when the genesis occurred.

Let the record show that Miami’s Ghostwridah never slipped through the cracks and continued to grind until he signs his eventual deal with the Carter administration. Until the ink dries, here’s a freestyle over Puff & Biggie’s 1997 classic.
