Here’s an interesting premise: grab four artists/groups from four Texas musical goldmines and pair them together for a tour. That’s exactly what Red Bull pulled off as the Skooled Tour embarked on its first stop last night at Warehouse Live. With the highlight being a hilarious and nostalgic DJ set from Mannie Fresh, the Texas representers from Austin (Kydd), San Antonio (Worldwide), Houston (The Niceguys) & Dallas (A.Dd+) all held their own with energetic sets with their unique takes on, to be general, the diversity of Texas hip-hop.

Space City Beat Battle Championship Re-Cap Video

January 21, 2012 – The Space City Beat Battle™ launched Episode Five of what is considered to be the premiere beat competition in Houston. With previous winners Tony Dark, Risky Boi, V12, Black Keys Productions, Y Phoenix, Steezilla plus wild cards Nahuma, King Henry, illFaded and Code Redd all in attendance the stage was set for a phenomenal night for the fifth edition of The Space City Beat Battle™. The city’s best emerging producers made it to the final round of the competition in what we will call a sonic battle royale. With a producer vs producer format for each round, the finalist were able to choose two tracks to go head to head against the competition.
The Mercury Room served as the host venue for the showcase as a last minute conflict arose at the original host location. The energetic crowd was enthused round after round as the finalist delivered radio worthy productions. DJ Ipod Ammo (Killa Kyleon, Fat Tony) and DJ Arsnik (Turnin Headz Radio) provided the sounds in between rounds.
In the end the two legendary guest judges, DJ Scratch of EPMD and DJ DMD unanimously chose crowd favorite Rahim of Black Keys Productions as the 2011 Citywide Champion. The sixth episode of The Space City Beat Battle™ will take place in May and kick off the next season. Producers looking to participate may contact SCBB at spacecitybeatbattle@gmail.com

A treat for all of you R&B lovers, a trio of sultry singers will hit the House of Blues Bronze Peacock room the day after Valentine’s Day. British R&B star Estelle headlines a set including Stacey Barthe, Elle Varner & Luke James. A perfect way to make up for something you didn’t do the day before. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased via the House of Blues box office or online.

It was bound to happen. The Complex cover boy and New York’s most polarizing rookie will hit Houston on February 26th at Warehouse Live inside The Ballroom. Rocky, known for the bubbling hits “Peso”, “Purple Swag” & his Live.Love.A$AP mixtape will no doubt bring an audience of onlookers and skeptics that will either love him or hate him. Either way, it should be an event.

Slaughterhouse To Hit Houston On March 9th

Beginning in Dallas on March 8th, Slaughterhouse will embark on a national tour to promote their new upcoming album welcome to: OUR HOUSE with stops in Houston on March 9th, Austin on March 10th & San Antonio on March 11th. Apparently there’s some confusion as whether House Of Blues or Warehouse Live will be the venue for the Houston stop.
