EP: Authentic Snoopy – Early Arrival

February 16, 2012 in EPs

This should be the highlight of Authentic Snoopy’s young career so far. At present time, the youngster and new father is about to open for Yelawolf at one of the more established music venues in Houston. Instead, while you & I on the outside looking in may see this as career achievement, he views it as a stepping stone to a potential chance where he’s the headliner. He has Grammy ambitions, constant thoughts of being considered one of the best and more. All thoughts made by someone who definitely has the attitude to achieve them.

Here’s the kicker. When’s the moment when it all crashes down? Does an artist of Snoopy’s growing magnitude immediately think something could take this all away? Or does he act more like Jeremy Lin at this point and record and make moves as if he has nothing to lose anyway? I figure he’s running with the latter. The Early Arrival is a clear example of it, a hodgepodge mix of original tracks and freestyles that shows Snoopy’s improvement from Everything Ain’t Enuff. Snoopy’s playing with house money at this point and with his work ethic growing, maybe the Yelawolf show truly is a stepping stone.

EP: Nesby Phips – Ode 2 Old School & Classics

February 16, 2012 in EPs

Nesby Phips is a student of the game, someone who’s seen it all and definitely heard it all. Seeing the opportunity to continue supplying the masses with new music, Phips’ 1st & 15th Campaign has all the makings of a constant reminder, knocking on your ear drum twice within a thirty day period, just like pay day. His first effort Ode 2 Old School & Classics only comes with three features from Curren$y, Big Sant & his brother Henry McCulla but is heavy on wordplay and slick talk, especially on “Whole Nutha” where Phips makes mention of Halle Berry’s breasts in Swordfish.

Featuring earlier leak “Rubenstein Bros” with Spitta, Phips also rides over OutKast’s “Decatur Psalm”, Jay-Z’s “Sunshine” & more. Get your heads ready, Phips is coming.

EP: D-Risha & That Purple Bastard – 6 Demon Bag

January 30, 2012 in EPs, Top Posts

On the last Monday of January, in what’s presumed to be the last year on Earth, D-Risha & That Purple Bastard come together to bring you the 6 Demon Bag EP, a collage of Bastard’s psychedelic production and Risha’s megaphone style raps all in the name of Houston hip-hop and fandom of the film Big Trouble In Little China.

Bastard knows how to be eccentric, a nomadic weirdo with a gangly long beard and tattoos. His production knows it even more with samples of Billy Squier’s “The Stroke” on the EP lead “Save The Day” and cuts of Big Trouble In Little China on “Shake The Heavens” featuring hasHBrown & Bishop Black. At only 6 cuts featuring a few bonus tracks, 6 Demon Bag marks the second such producer/emcee collaboration with TPB as he recently put his stamp on Nasty Nique’s Breakfast Of Champions mixtape.

Prepare for loud raps and interesting production. Tracklist & download link after the jump.

Tunk – No Defeat (f. Paris Pershun of A.Dd+)

January 29, 2012 in EPs, Singles

Dallas’ own Tunk flanks A.Dd+ in the same way Cool Breeze stayed around the Dungeon Family for all those years, a supporting character more than capable of stepping into the spotlight and snatching stardom for himself. His entire No Defeat EP comes on the heels of a resurrection for Dallas hip-hop, a percussion heavy concoction steered by Breeze the Beat Machine where synths and drums are king and authenticity in the face of struggle is the call to fame.

The EP’s title track features the poet side of A.Dd+ in Paris Pershun swipes a key portion of Kanye West’s “All Falls Down” over a mixture of high trumpets and snare drums. Tunk has the idea of perspective rap down pat from the mentions of car notes, poverty and the stresses wrapped in between to some sort of growing aesthetic. The new age of being broke while constantly being in the land of riches weighs heavily from South Dallas to New York City, where Tunk knows especially that his voice need be heard.

Stream “No Defeat” below & pick up the EP via Tunk’s Bandcamp page.
