“The evolution is so real.” For Tony Woods, better known as San Antonio emcee King Tonyo, it’s been real indeed.

It was a humid evening in Texas (nothing new for the Lone Star State), but that night we escaped the heat by phone – his voice warm and personable as he described the journey that music has taken him on.

Not one to run from change – or a challenge – instead the Texas native embraced both, showcasing his versatility by cranking out singles like the sensual “Island Girl” and the Robbie Raps assisted banger, “Next 2 Blow.

“My music is pretty much based on moods,” he explained. “I’m pretty versatile in that there really is a mood for everything. Shit, I can even make country,” he added with a laugh. But just when you think you’ve got him figured out he changes course again, setting a new tone with a RnB infused EP titled “Pineapples.

Still, he hasn’t lost his original hunger. Just two days after our chat, he was in Houston – commanding the stage on June 16 at the third annual L.O.U.D. FEST, a booming showcase that brought over 30 independent artists to the Raven Tower in Houston. Presented by L.O.U.D. Muzik, a portion of the proceeds benefited the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Houston chapter.

Now he’s looking to the future, creating and pushing new music as he prepares to close 2018 with a bang; dropping an infectious new sampling called “Work 4 Me” just in time for the summer. Yes the evolution is real indeed, but for Tonyo, that’s not a bad thing at all.
