Jay Rock shares “Road to #Redemption,” the official trailer for the TDE emcee’s upcoming third studio album.

Kendrick Lamar said it best: “Jay Rock is about The Struggle.”

For years, the Top Dawg Entertainment rapper held notoriety for logging an impressive run of features on other peoples’ songs, most notably on Kendrick Lamar’s “Money Trees” (In fact, Jay Rock took over “Money Trees” so completely that he gave the track a “Part Two” two years after good kid, m.A.A.d. city). But he’s also known as “The First Dawg,” because he was the first of TDE’s roster to drop an album under the brand. In the time since, Rock has earned even more fans, released an amazing sophomore album in “90059,” and earned a reputation for being spectacular to watch live (a reputation most recently proven true on TDE’s current “The Championship Tour” run).

Next week, Jay Rock will release ‘Redemption,’ his first album in nearly three years. Propelled forward by lead single and summer anthem in the making “WIN,” ‘Redemption’ will also kick off TDE’s second-half strategy for 2018. The label began the year with “The Championship Tour” featuring of all its artists. And over the next six months, they’ll be releasing albums, with Rock and ScHoolboy Q both dropping this summer, and Isaiah Rashad on deck to release in the year’s fourth quarter.

To further build anticipation for his third studio LP, Jay Rock released an official trailer, aptly titled “Road to #Redemption,” on Tuesday.

The short clip splices old footage of Jay Rock’s earlier days as a knucklehead in Watts’s Nickerson Gardens (he doesn’t have his token beard!) and his first years with TDE, with more recent clips of him on “The Championship Tour.” The trailer also bears cameos from Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul, and more, all sharing praise for their labelmate. From sitting in the back of a squad car to headlining shows. How could one EVER bet against Jay Rock?
