The Chopstars’ DJ Candlestick and his friends will take over Avant Garden Wednesday night for a free show, “Purple Garden Volume 1.”

Avant Garden has become a not-so-secret hangout spot for Houston indie artists. Slide through the venue on any given weeknight for drink specials and tacos, and you’ll find your favorite local rapper or singer just casually posted up there. The Garden is also a go-to spot for The Chopstars, OG Ron C’s certified torchbearers of the Chopped Not Slopped. DJ Candlestick, for example, loves to hit the ones and twos there. For example, the DJ hosted Mike Checc’s ‘The Checc In’ listening party there back in February.

This week, DJ Candlestick will host another event at Avant Garden – the so-called “Purple Garden: Chopstars Remix, Vol. 1,” and this time, he’s bringing a lot more friends.

Branded by Candlestick himself as a “free show and party,” the event will feature live performances from Houston artists as well as DJ sets from a handful of DJs. Candlestick himself will do a set, with others coming from DJ Skrechy Skrach, DJ Motivation, Chopstars MC Max, and DJ Q Holic. As for the artists themselves, Mike Checc, Lea Music, GrimeLordz, Mike Devoe, and “S.L.U.T.” ambassador BreakItDown DC will all bless the stage. “Purple Garden Vol. 1” presents the perfect opportunity for attendees end their Hump Day the right way – and to become further exposed to the city’s slept-on independent talent.

DJ Candlestick’s “Purple Garden: Chopstars Remix, Vol. 1” event goes down tonight at Avant Garden, 411 Westheimer. There is no cover, and festivities are expected to kick off at 10 PM.
