Our own Monica Jones (fresh off bringing back her “Vision & Vibes” event for women this past weekend) has once again worked her magic to track down the best Valentine’s Day looks for those in the city of Houston. Whether you’re in love, trying to cuddle up, or too mad at love to look past 2/14 (at least ‘Black Panther’ is coming on 2/16?), Monica has something for you. — This guide was compiled with the single, the ‘that’s bae,’ AND the ‘happily ever after’ crowd in mind. Even those who absolutely loathe the thought of Valentine’s Day lurking around the corner can find something worth doing. So, how does one manage to survive the V-Day holiday weekend without letting the bitterness of a significant other being absent settle in? Simple – redefine your personal definition of love. There’s more than one way to celebrate your love and admiration for those who matter in your life. So, without further ado, here’s your solution for all things social, romantic, and cultured this upcoming Valentine’s Day. For the Love of Food AirBNBae (2/15) – A 5-course Valentine’s day themed dinner curated by Chef Tiffani Janelle and hosted by Honor Humanity, Inc. Their $25 bottles of wine are a perfect pair alongside their global-inspired bites. It goes down 6-10 PM at 4101 Fannin St. For the culture… Dope Art Show (2/14, Proof Lounge) – The Dope Art Show, which highlights Houston’s rising talents in the music and art community, is getting its own “It’s All Love” Valentine’s Day edition. This event is perfect for a couple or a group of friends looking for a fun night. The V-Day Dope Art Show will feature a performance from Houston rapper Tobe Nwigwe, and options for a VIP three-course meal either solo or for two. Early bird tickets are still available and can be found here. Love With R&B Concert & Social (2/14) – If you love live music, then this showcase is a must for R&B lovers. Singer-songwriter Patrice Dominique will host Love With R&B at Fox Hollow on Valentine’s Day, with an appearance from featured vocalist Kirkland. Doors will open at 7 PM for a Happy Hour Social, with the show commencing from 7 PM to midnight. For the ladies, free champagne will be available until 9 PM, as well. RSVP here. The Black Panther Opening Weekend (2/15) – That’s right, get your outfits ready like it’s the first day of school for the Blackest event of 2018. Pull up alone or bring a date with you to Wakanda and take in the opening weekend for Marvel’s latest film. (Pro tip: book your tickets in advance and go for the reserved seating) Tank: Up Close and Personal (2/14) – The self-proclaimed “Savage” of R&B is coming to Houston on Valentine’s Day to serenade your girl for one night only. Revention Music Center will play host to Tank’s Houston tour stop, with doors opening at 8:30 PM. Ticket prices start at $50 and can be grabbed via LiveNation. For the Lovers & Friends…..(The “we talk- it’s complicated “ stage) Go Suck Yourself Crawfish Boil (2/18) – The Watering Hole is playing host to an all-you-can-eat Crawfish Boil. It’s only $25 for at least 4 lbs. of crawfish or more – what more can you ask for? It lasts all day from 2 to 6 PM and you can grab tickets here. Wine on the Green (2/17) – Experience wine drunk with your boo at Wine on the Green at Water Works Park. Attendees will explore of some of Houston’s beautiful landscape scenery while also sipping over 60 wines from all over the world. It goes down from 3 to 8 PM, and tickets can be purchased here. Laugh Out Loud – A great way to keep things casual is by bringing your Valentine to a relaxed environment like a comedy show. Get your laugh on at Grooves’ Certified Funny Saturdays’ “Valentine’s Weekend Comedy Show” on February 18th, hosted by local comedian Shabaz and featuring Miami comedian Malik S. from ComicView and P. Diddy’s “Bad Boys of Comedy” (tickets here). Or, you can check out the 6th Annual “Battle of the Sexes” Comedy Show on Valentine’s Day, presented by She’s So Happy. It goes down at The Secret Group and tickets range from $20-40 – cop yours here. Who needs boyfriends when you’ve got your girlfriends?? ShredYourEx (2/16) – If your ex is good for nothing else, they might be good for one last play. Dave & Buster’s is giving away unlimited game play on February 16th for those who bring in a picture of their old flame to shred. Bring your BFF who’s also going through it along for a fun night. The Montrose Studio – Celebrate your friendship with a photoshoot at the newest photography studio in Houston. Montrose Studios offers a DIY approach, equipped with colorful and themed rooms. Galentines Day Brunch (2/13) – Girls love brunch. And White Oak Kitchen + Drinks in the Galleria area knows that girls love brunch. So the Houston cafe is hosting an all-day brunch fest on Valentine’s Day Eve, with $5 mimosas and $6 chicken and waffles. Afrobeats – This high energy, African-inspired inspired dance class at Woman’s Earth Wellness Center is a great way to burn some calories and unwind with your girls.
