Bruno Mars’s “Finesse (Remix)” music video, featuring Cardi B, has both artists “trippin’ and finessin'” their way back to the ’90s.

There’s a reason Bruno Mars’s ’24K Magic’ LP is up for a number of Grammys next month, including the coveted “Album of The Year” award. The Hawaiian crooner’s third album added contemporary flavor to nostalgic sound, each of its nine tracks in one way or another sounding like a blast from the past. And listeners fell in love with Bruno playing clear tribute to the genres that inspired him, from funk to old-school soul to New Jack Swing.

While “That’s What I Like” and “Versace on The Floor” have been the most recent ’24K’ singles to get shown love, one of the album’s more underrated tracks is “Finesse.” “Finesse” was a grandchild of Teddy Riley’s: it’s upbeat, funky, and has an irresistible instrumental and hook. Bruno’s way of making “Finesse” a little better? Starting his new year by giving the track a Cardi B-assisted remix and a visual to match.

Prior to dropping the video on social media, Mars gave thanks to Keenan Ivory Wayans, and “Finesse (Remix)’s” visuals show exactly why: they’re inspired by the classic sketch comedy series, ‘In Living Color.’

‘In Living Color’s’ opening sequence, where the cast paints over the camera, is recreated by Cardi and Bruno in the video’s first minute. When Cardi B is done making short work of her opening bars, Bruno and his band of “Fly Boys” hit a recreated ‘In Living Color’ stage to bust out the dance moves and call out to the girls on the balcony. Cardi even busts out the door onstage in the way musical guests used to do so on the show. The fashions are throwback, the choreo is classic, and it’s yet another win for Mars with the dope visuals.
