Mike Checc takes over Young M.A.’s “Walk” on a brand new freestyle.

“Show ya hand, you a Joker/ None of these n*ggas funny…”

Refocused and reloaded. That’s pretty much where Mike Checc has found himself in the second half of 2017. The Houston emcee and 7TEEN5 ambassador’s ‘The Checc In’ project doesn’t yet have a set release date, but it does have an official tracklist and its “The Experiment” single is still getting attention, as well. To pass the time and, perhaps, to keep himself sharp, Mike Checc has kicked off “#MikeCheccMondays,” a weekly series where he’ll drop new music every Monday. His first installment in the series? A freestyle over Young M.A.’s “Walk” single.

At the least, “Walk (Freestyle)” is a small flex, a two-minute exercise during which Mike Checc barely catches a breath as he fires his bars off at a rapid pace. At the most, it’s cleverness mixed with honest insight and a number of lines that the listener will have to run back. Along the way, Checc pledges allegiance to 7TEEN5 (“ain’t no switchin’ sides”) and marks clear differences between himself and his peers. But family’s still the rapper’s priority. He not only shouts out his belated brother, but insists “I ain’t do it by myself – whole fam came with me.”
