spider-man into the spider verse

Miles Morales gets his own Spidey movie in the debut trailer for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

Two years ago, Sony announced that an animated Spider-Man movie would hit theaters. The catch? It would not in conjunction with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That film, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse already had directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller on as producers. It also had a Spider-Man in place with Miles Morales. Now thanks to Brazil Comic-Con, we have the official teaser trailer.

Everything trademark about Morales’ Spidey is there, right down to the red and white Air Jordan 1s on his feet. The teaser opens with Morales, hooded, moving through a snowy New York City before catching the grave of one Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man. There are a few scenes of Morales swinging through New York, trying to get a handle on his powers with the tagline: “more than one wears the mask” subtitling his lack of feats. Finally, the teaser ends with Morales (The Get Down‘s Shameik Moore) pulling off the hood, out of breath and shocked by his new powers.

First introduced in August 2011, the Miles Morales arc of Spider-Man arrived with Ultimate Fallout #4. Similar to Peter Parker, Morales was bitten by a radioactive spider and developed superpowers. He took on the role of Spider-Man after the Green Goblin killed Parker. The standalone Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse will no doubt be a Morales origin story. It will speak to a New York City where its youngest hero is an Afro-Latino who already got a slight mention in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will hit theaters December 21st, 2018. Watch the teaser trailer below.
