g perico 2 tha left

G Perico closes out his 2017 with his second solo project, 2 Tha Left.

“Sittin’ still don’t fit nowhere in my schedule,” G Perico raps on 2 Tha Left. The sentence arrives on two separate occasions but it’s only to drive home his point. G Perico can’t stop going. Rich Homie Quan once lived by the motto that he couldn’t stop going in. Perico, the South Central, LA rapper with the unmistakable jheri curl, hasn’t slowed down in 2017. In April, he released his debut album, All Blue. Months later, he teamed with Cardo and Jay Worthy to form the G Worthy trio. On 2 Tha Left, he only solidifies everything he’s been preaching since the turn of the calendar.

Tracks like “Amerikkka” are sticking points but most of 2 Tha Left is seeped in LA culture. Perico dismisses the drama of having multiple women and proudly reps his flag (“What Up Cuz”) but from the onset of “Affiliated,” he isn’t in the mood to relax. “World On Wheels” is a plush interlude and ode to the landmark LA skating rink that sits off Venice. On “Send Her Home,” Curren$y shows up to depart wisdom in his own quixotic haze: “Play it fast / Everybody wasn’t raised like that / These n*ggas having nightmares / Picturing they b*tch in my Cadillac…”

Most of all, 2 Tha Left is another show that everything really isn’t sweet around Perico’s way. Kick doors from the cops (“One Two”), untrustworthy friends and more, the only thing that can keep Perico sane is fulfilling his wants to get more out of the world. Thanks to production from Westside Webb, Cardo, Dupri, V-12 as well as guest spots from Nef the Pharaoh, Mozzy, TeeCee4800, Polyester and more, the winter can feel just like the summer.
