Showtime has acquired the rights to the iconic Prince film, Sign O’ The Times. Released as a companion to his 1987 double album, the concert movie will re-air on television for the first time in decades on September 16th. The film features live performances of Prince classics such as “U Got the Look” (with Sheena Easton), “If I Was Your Girlfriend” and “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man.” There is also a performance of “Little Red Corvette.” Much of the film was shot at Prince’s esteemed Paisley Park Studios with additional footage coming from tours of the Netherlands and Belgium. Released in 1987, Sign O’ The Times came at an interesting period in Prince’s career. It’s the first album of his that did not feature The Revolution after he disbanded the group following 1986’s Parade. Music critics hailed the concert film version of Sign as one of the greatest concert films ever made.
