Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna tear LA up for the “Loyalty” video.

Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. has already racked up a few accolades in 2017. The year’s best reviewed album not only stands as the only 2017 release to have gone double platinum, it cemented Lamar as king. The DAMN. tour has sold out across the country, bringing back visions of Kung Fu Kenny’s Coachella performance every night. Guest stars such as J. Cole and Chance The Rapper have appeared to add even more legitimacy to Lamar’s claims as the best out. Now with the “Loyalty” video directed by Dave Meyers and The Little Homies, the legend only grows further.

The fourth video from DAMN. is just as thematic as the previous three. Lamar can be seen fighting for Rihanna’s honor after she’s harassing a muscle bound meathead at a stoplight, play mob boss and have the most dangerous version of a trust fall ever imagined. Similar to that of “DNA” and “Element,” Lamar has to get his hands dirty and throw a couple shots to prove a point.

In the middle of the video, the sounds of “XXX.” kick in with a solid close-up of Rihanna before jutting into separate images and scenes. The two sink into quicksand just as many other peers have done before Lamar interrogates a “light” version of himself, LA-mob style and ultimately the twosome murder him. In a way, they’re the Harley Quinn and Joker you wish Suicide Squad gave us.
