puff daddy watcha gon' do?

Taken from Ep. 48 of OVO Sound Radio, Puff Daddy drops two versions of a new track.

Puff Daddy made certain that his spot as guest host of OVO Sound Radio would be memorable. He lavished praises on Jay-Z’s 4:44 album, hailing it as the year’s best and an album that “changes our way of thinking.” He did his usual spiel of motivational shit talk and even played records from his son Christian. However, the big get of the night? “Watcha Gon’ Do?” a record that pairs Puff with Rick Ross and The Notorious B.I.G.

Actually, there are two versions of “Watcha Gon’ Do?” The full version, which features a Ross cameo slices through sample chops of EPMD’s “You’s A Customer” and Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like An Eagle.” Puff says he went through a “fur phase” last winter while Ross stacks his usual vivid storytelling all over. If the verse from The Notorious B.I.G. sounds familiar, it’s from 1996’s “You’ll See” with The L.O.X.

“Watcha Gon’ Do? Dre Day” is the alternate version of the track; a more West Coast inspired bop as Diddy and Biggie reign alone. Combs and company take on Dr. Dre’s “Nuthin’ But A G Thang” classic in a similar vein of Biggie’s “Real N*ggas Real Do Real Things” freestyle from the mid-90s where he ran all over West Coast inspired production.
