trae tha truth tha truth part three

Trae Tha Truth’s Tha Truth trilogy concludes with features from Young Thug, Maxo Kream, T.I., Curren$y and more.

On album number nine, Trae Tha Truth already knows where his head is at. This is not the same Trae Tha Truth who watched his body and mind go through the sludge of life on Losing Composure. It’s not even the black Locs brandishing, self-described asshole who stood proudly, if not defiant on Restless.

Instead, this may be as confident and free as Trae Tha Truth has ever been. The gravel voiced narration that has become his calling card is still there, obviously but he’s walking and working in another orbit. Trae can call any number of the last three mayors of Houston friends. He can find ways to add Mark Morrison on bulbous, heavy-handed remixes. Ultimately, Trae can still reach his tattooed hands all over the city and understand the plight of it all.

Tha Truth Pt. 3 arrives close to two years after the original and seventeen months after Tha Truth Pt. 2. In that time span, Trae’s moved up the Grand Hustle ladder, continued to celebrate Trae Day and ring in a number of guest features into his atmosphere of lively yet cold reminders of celebrating both ups and downs.

Boasting a guest roster that includes Young Thug (“Thuggin“), Maxo Kream, Post Malone, T.I. and more, Tha Truth Pt. 3 is Trae’s biggest album on paper. He wholeheartedly believes it is his best body of work, anchored by the woozy yet nostalgic, “Take Me Back.”

Tha Truth Pt. 3 is my best album to date, full of instant classics and timeless music,” Trae told XXL. It’s very personal; one of the most personal albums I’ve ever made. I talk about family, like my brother who was murdered, and I talk about the ups and downs I’ve gone through to get to where I am now.”
