Don-P (Hot Peez & Donnie Houston) get colorful in the visuals for their Lagniappe single, “Magnificent.”

If you were in Houston in 2016, there was absolutely no way you could avoid Don-P, aka the collective duo of Hot Peez and Donnie Houston.

The two were responsible for Lagniappe,’ the perfect marriage of Peez’s Louisiana roots and Donnie’s Southern leanings and sampling prowess into a eight-track audio gumbo of an EP. And if you were in Houston last year, at some level, in some place, you heard SOMETHING from Lagniappe’ at one point or another. Perhaps it was the radio-friendly “Really.” Perhaps it was the Paul Wall-assisted “Don’t React.” For the ladies, certainly, it was “F.O.Y.”

But it all began with “Magnificent,” ‘Lagniappe’s’ lead single and the track that formally introduced Don-P as the Houston hip-hop equivalent of The New Age Outlaws. Just as “Magnificent” was the single that started it all, so, too, is “Magnificent” the first cut off Lagniappe’ to get a music video. Hot Peez premiered the visuals on YouTube Monday morning.

Directed By Tazer is behind the lens for “Magnificent,” playing up to the song’s more fun and sinful elements. Creatively, Peez and Donnie become black and white silhouettes against colorful backgrounds, whether it’s dollar bills, their logo projected against a wall of gold, or even the two jigging in front of ‘Lagniappe’s’ blown-up cover art. And just like “Magnificent” makes an ass or two drop when its beat drops, there are dancers shaking their blessings alongside the duo. Life can get serious. “Magnificent” reminds listeners and viewers to enjoy themselves, even when things don’t go according to plan.

Watch Hot Peez and Donnie Houston’s “Magnificent” video for yourself up. “Magnificent” appears on Don-P’s ‘Lagniappe’ LP, out now on iTunes.
