With a new album on the way, Big Boi shares a trunk-thumping new single, “In The South” featuring Gucci Mane & Pimp C.

Antwan Patton is tired of being overlooked. When it comes to OutKast, people tend to give their flowers to Andre 3000 and his penchant to avoid dropping a second solo album kill features. Big Boi, however, has constantly toyed and tinkered with his sound. Whether it was his Dungeoneeze remixes or his unexpected perfect pairing with Phantogram for ‘Big Grams,’ Big Boi has never let himself be squeezed into a box.

Next Friday, Big Boi will release his third studio album, ‘Boomiverse’; and Thursday night, he shared the latest leak from the project, “In The South.”

Coming on the heels of the Killer Mike and Jeezy-assisted “Kill Jill,” “In The South” has Big Boi collaborating with Gucci Mane and summoning the ghost of Chad Butler from the dead for the hook. A four-minute Southern fried symphony, both Guwop and Antwan dismiss haters and critics (“shine blockas,” Big Boi might call them) while simultaneously paying homage to Southern staples. Mention of a Cutlass? Check. Stepping outside in your house slippers or flip-flops? A self-aware nod to police brutality? Yep, that appears here, too. “In The South” should sound right at home booming out the speakers of cars from Texas to Atlanta, all summer long.
