“They act like they hate me, but still wanna be me…”

There’s a certain rawness to Mike Checc.

The #ThePulse alum put it on display in his “Recollect” single, a posse cut with his 7TEEN5 brethren King Khayno and YGN Tadoe. His delivery is gritty but he commands respect, because anyone can detect that Mike Checc has an edge. His Twitter moniker, at the moment, proclaims matter-of-factly “EP done.” an indication that his 2017TEEN5 project is complete and nearing release. Though his next step is just around the corner, Mike Checc’s focus may be sharper than it’s ever been.

Look no further than “Blame,” the music video counterpart to his Milldizzy-produced single from last fall. Mike opted to give the track a set of visuals on Thursday to build momentum for his upcoming EP.

Director BARF Media uses shadows to balance darkness and light (similar to the dueling natures of the song itself), depicting Mike mostly alone in an abandoned warehouse. “Blame” is brutally honest: it’s Mike Checc sharing the thoughts that pass through his head. Whether it’s faux foes in friends’ clothing, wanting to strike back when he’s been betrayed, or Satan calling even as his mother helps to keep him out of his clutches, Mike spills it all on the track. In one clever moment, Mike spits“the devil be like, ‘I’ma take all that you’ve got, and I won’t stop til I get you!'” just as a door closes in on him.

Watch Mike Checc’s “Blame” video for yourself up top. The Houston emcee’s 2017TEEN5 EP is on its way soon, though “Blame” is out on iTunes now.
