Kendrick Lamar shares the scathing fourth installment in his “The Heart” series.

Kendrick Lamar’s having a busy end to the week, it seems. K. Dot logged an impressive feature alongside Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane on Mike WiLL Made It’s upcoming Ransom 2 LP, but he also began the day by sharing a somewhat cryptic picture on his Instagram.

The Top Dawg emcee’s post led many to speculate: Was Kendrick’s fourth album on the way? Was TDE planning to drop four projects in 2017? All was officially revealed on iTunes tonight, when Kendrick Lamar shared his newest single, “The Heart Part 4.”

The fourth installment in Kendrick’s “The Heart” series (the first “The Heart” appeared way back on one of Kendrick’s earliest mixtapes, K. Dot Drops), “The Heart Part 4” starts out over a Blaxploitation-era inspired beat, high hats and a guitar. Its hook fires soft slugs in the form of proverbial wisdom – “Don’t tell a lie on me/ I won’t tell the truth bout you” – before Kendrick lets loose on the second verse and never lets up to the end.

The obvious thought is to think that Lamar is aiming at Drake (“my fans can’t wait for me to… crush your new sh*t/ you punk ass, you a scared little b*tch!”), but purists will appreciate that he’s gone back to his Compton street shit as opposed to the “art house” feel of TPAB and its untitled unmastered follow-up. The truth is, that Kendrick has probably had ammunition in the chamber and was just waiting for the right time to do so. Apparently, the right time was now, and it comes equipped with at least three different beat switches and a LOT of anger at fake folks.
