Delays galore, Tinashe returns with a brand new single.

Tinashe’s Joyride, her follow-up album to her 2014 debut Aquarius has been stuck in limbo forever. Since then we’ve gotten two mixtapes (Amethyst, Nightride), a Britney Spears collaboration, the supposed lead single for Joyride in “Party Favors” with Young Thug and more. There’s also that rather interesting GQ photoshoot with Travis Scott thanks to Terry Richardson, which we won’t discuss (even though the interview is quite revealing).

“The good thing that fans should be excited about is that the album is just getting better and better,” she told GQ. “It’s not sitting in limbo, it’s being improved upon and growing all the time.”

“Flame,” her latest single takes on more of a ballad approach than the spunky, sensual dance she’s known for. Leaning more towards pop, “Flame” sees Tinashe show off a bit of her range while having an ex-lover on the brain. “My body hurts with every heartbeat/ Just say I’m not the only one,” she sings. “C’mon, tell me that you’ve still got the flame for me/ And tell me that you still want to stay: don’t leave.”

There’s a light-hearted feel to the record and if it’s any consideration, Tinashe is moving into a more global view. Getting a #1 record and not wanting to situate yourself to a box will do that.

Stream “Flame” below and purchase the single on iTunes. She teased the single on Instagram last night. Judging from the photo, we’re probably getting a monolithic slow burn of a video.
