Two ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ conspirators in Kendrick Lamar & Thundercat ride again.

Thundercat’s version of dazed out, soulful blues will get another high profile release on Friday. Drunk, the follow-up to 2015’s The Beyond / Where The Giants Roam has already showcased Thundercat’s versatility. There’s “Show You The Way,” the duet with yacht rock gods Kenny Loggins & Michael McDonald. And there’s the goofy, yet sincere move of “Friend Zone” where Stephen Brunner admits to wanting more Mortal Kombat than to be played for a fool. The album’s most anticipated track, “Walk On By” featuring Kendrick Lamar was liberated earlier today.

“Fragmented memories, sentences incomplete/ That’s when she said, ‘Don’t wanna put up a fight anymore,'” Thundercat sings in regards to the loss of a significant other. Kendrick Lamar’s eulogy takes a different turn however. The astral guitar work and drums let Lamar ride shotgun with an unflinching verse. “From eyewitness binoculars / To Argentina & Africa … I can’t deny a sin, condolences through this song.” Kendrick’s point of view lends to a common thought, the smallest amount of disrespect could cost you your life, especially in Lamar’s world. Hear “Walk On By” from Thundercat and Kendrick here.

Drunk features the aforementioned Loggins, McDonald & Lamar along with Pharrell, Wiz Khalifa & more. In other TC news, the bassist has been added to the upcoming 10th Annual Roots Picnic on June 3rd in Philadelphia.
