Rap duo The Thrift Lowrds’ – of Houston collective The Not Another – go bar for bar on “Casette Deck Reckz.”

Sometimes bars are all you need.

That’s the method behind “Casette Deck Reckz,” the latest single from The Thrift Lowrds. The Thrift Lowrds (who also go by “Lords of the Thrift”) are part of Houston-based label and collective The Not Another, and are labelmates with previous #ThePulse featurette EMRLD. The two emcees are preparing their debut LP, Lore Has It, and opted to preface the album by releasing “Casette Deck Reckz” last week.

Over a smooth, urban symphony-esque beat courtesy of producer Ultimate Baseball Kid, the Thrift Lowrds don’t need a hook for “Casette Deck Reckz.” Rather, they spend three minutes bragging on being Texas made (“land of the bluebonnets and the Trill”) and rising above the critics, shade, and bad habits to get to the money. Along the way, the duo demonstrate their cleverness and a penchant for random yet well-timed punchlines (there’s a particularly nice one involving the video game “Streets of Rage”).
