Houston emcee Paloma Finesse shares “Deja Vu,” the KAYTRANADA-produced lead single from her As You Wish project.

“I’m a solid young n*gga – ain’t nobody f*ckin’ with me.”

Paloma Finesse first caught our ears last summer, with her star turn on Jed The Fameless’s “Audacity (Flawless Remix).” In the months since, the Houston-hailing spitter and ambassador of the #soulCRAC flew beneath the radar, insisting that she was hard at work and new music would come in due time.

It turns out that Paloma Finesse has been putting the finishing touches on her debut As You Wish LP; and on Monday, Finesse shared the project’s first single, “Deja Vu (My City).”

Paloma recruits big-name boardman KAYTRANADA (fresh off dropping 99.9% and .0001% last year) to handle production for “Deja Vu,” a just-under-three minute recollection and reminiscence on a love that’s defined mostly by the times Paloma spent with her in the city. Theirs is a star-crossed love: one where Paloma Finesse was both fiercely protective of and clearly taken with her partner, but one where life eventually got the better of what they were trying to build. Couple Paloma’s sh*t-talk about coming up and honest regret about the girl, with Mufasa Enzor adding to the mood by way of guest vocals, and “Deja Vu” is a brief yet catchy number that will make any listener recall the one that got away.
