A panel is set to take place to discuss the lasting legacy of Chad Lamont Butler, aka Pimp C at Rice University.

Rice University’s Woodson Research Center Special Collections & Archives is about to have a new member. Pimp C, the UGK member who in death may have created a legacy larger than life is set to have his own collection at the esteemed university.

According to a press release, the Pimp C Collection is into be included into the Center’s Hip-Hop Archive. Several documents and promotional items such as handwritten lyrics and contracts to promotional flats for UGK will be included.

To celebrate, a panel will take place on January 31st at Rice’s Memorial Center Grand Hall (6100 Main) from 7-10 PM. The panel, “Pimp C: A Trill Legacy” will feature distinguished guests as well as one particular individual with ties both to Rice & UGK. Bun B, David Banner, Lil Keke, Mr. Lee, Pimp C’s widow Chinara Butler, DJ Michael “5000” Watts, & E.S.G. will be involved. Madd Hatta will serve as the panel moderator. The event is open to the public.

“We are so excited about this collaboration with Rice University,” Butler said in a press release. “Preserving my husband’s legacy is my top priority, and through this partnership, we can now ensure that Chad’s music​​ can be studied for generations to come.”
