This is D3 The Concrete, bringing you fashion and lifestyle news from the streets.

This time, I get to talk about an event coming up that I am sure that you will not want to miss: the first annual Front Row Houston Fashion Show, presented by local streetwear/lifestyle brand, CHKMTE (pronounced “Checkmate”).

The Front Row Houston Fashion Show will commence on February 1st, at the Gallery (6303 Beverly Hill Street) with an opening party, catered with hors d’oeuvres by Café Natalie, from 7p-8:30p. Afterwards, from 9p-10p, there will be a fashion show for 5 select brands, showcasing their latest creations to the viewing public. Two of these brands, Preston Douglas and Richard & Grace, are a part of my shortlist of locally bred favorites. Once the fashion show is complete, then the party will begin, ending at 11p.

When we asked the Front Row committee about the event, it was stated that “a portion of the proceeds would be going to benefit the Mothers To Mothers Organization, an international non-profit, dedicated to preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV by providing education and support to those women living with the illness”.

So, if you plan on going to this event, be sure to purchase your tickets now at, because they will not be sold at the door. Be sure to dress fashion-forward or in cocktail attire.

To conclude, allow me to say that I have been following CHKMTE for a while now and to see Trevor Walker, owner of CHKMTE, do something such as this, it makes my heart glad. Giving back is an important aspect of life. I believe all brands should have this as part of their business plans, but that’s a whole other story for a different day.
