Rumor no more, Miles Morales is headlining the 2018 animated Spidey flick.

Miles Morales, the half black, half Puerto Rican comic character who dons the Spider-Man costume in an alternate reality in the comics is getting his own Spidey film.

Although the web crawler is getting his first official solo Marvel Universe film this upcoming July, Morales’ animated debut is a big deal. He’s the first black character and second Latino to ever officially wear the Spidey suit.

During a slate presentation at Sony Studios, Sony Animation President Kristine Belson confirmed Morales headlining the film. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors of The Lego Movie are attached as executive producers. Lord himself wrote the screenplay.

“The animated nature of it allows us to go places where we’ve never gone before,” Lord said via pre-recorded message at the conference. “The thing that inspires us most about Spider-Man is that anyone can wear that mask.”

Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey are set to direct the film. Morales’ animated film debut is set to occur in December.
