J. Cole’s brand new album, ‘4 Your Eyez Only’ is here.

J. Cole managed to win the final days of 2014 and much of 2015 with his 2014 Forest Hills Drive album. Weeks before 2016 is up, the North Carolina emcee releases his new album, 4 Your Eyez Only. The name and identity of the project surfaced a little over a week ago via an iTunes pre-order followed by a documentary. Two of the records from said documentary, “False Prophets” and “everybody dies” garnered plenty of attention for their believed subliminal shots at Kanye West, Wale, Lil Yachty and more. While Cole never explicitly said either records had names attached, people responded. Either way, neither track ended up on the final tracklist.

The ten tracks that do appear on the LP show a moment of growth and reflection for Cole. Whereas 2014 Forest Hills Drive touched upon some childish moments of vanity and sexuality, there’s a far greater sense of awareness here. Maybe it was fatherhood that sent him here to records like “Change” or “Neighbors”. Maybe it was laughing off the “J. Cole went double platinum with no features” jokes. Either way, 4 Your Eyez Only gives a far more sensible Cole.
