A Tribe Called Quest perform “We The People” & “The Space Program” from Thank You 4 Your Service.

In a week where any positive distraction is a necessary one, A Tribe Called Quest made their SNL debut. It was a family affair after all. Dave Chappelle led arguably the most hilarious first half of Saturday Night Live in years. Chris Rock showed up during a sketch. A Tribe Called Quest was the musical guest.

Saturday night, Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad & Jarobi White performed the first two tracks from Tribe’s brand new album. The first, “We The People” was a political move as any with lyrics such as, “All you black folks, you must go / All the Mexicans, you must go…” Jarobi wheeled out a banner of the late Phife Dawg as the Trini Gladiator’s lyrics from the track played overhead. Toward the end, as Tip looked more like the Queens version of Shinsuke Nakamura, White revealed a white T-shirt with the word “PHIFE” across the chest.

Later, during their second performance of the night, extended family Consequence & Busta Rhymes joined them for “The Space Program”. Their new album We Got It From Here … Thank You 4 Your Service is available now.
