Kyle Hubbard, plucky Houston rap outsider keeps it straight and simple for “This Is Houston.

Kyle Hubbard knows he doesn’t fit the stereotypical mold of a Houston rapper. The same goes for Lyric Michelle & T2 The Ghetto Hippie. In a small way, they’re The Defenders of Houston if we’re keeping it completely honest. Kyle Hubbard, a guy who has cut his teeth on tracks with Rapper Big Pooh, his good friend Roosh Williams & more is constantly overlooked. Lyric Michelle released one of the year’s best projects, regardless of gender. T2’s a weed smoking clairvoyant in the vein of Devin The Dude never truly gets his just due. That’s including a great project in A South West Side Story.

Naturally, the three of them share a like minded goal of being heard. Hubbard takes the lead for “This Is Houston”, a declarative moment where everything you think is Houston truly isn’t. You can’t swang in a Honda. Not everybody enjoys the taste of lean. Hubbard even confesses that the concoction itself is way out of his price range anyway. All of that juxtaposes with Lyric’s slowed down salute to the city itself on the chorus. T2 backdoors all of it with a guest verse that sticks to Hubbard’s original concept. Houston is flat out different than what a stereotypical outsider may tell you.

“Lyric, T2, and I don’t fit into the mold that is so often associated with Houston hip-hop,” Hubbard told the Houston Chronicle. “Despite the fact we have all three been active members in the city’s hip-hop scene for years.” Watch the video for “This Is Houston” from the happy trio below as they take in local haunts such as Frenchy’s, The Breakfast Klub, Warehouse Live and The Safehouse.
