war for the planet of the apes

The third film in the Planet of the Apes reboot finally gets to the action.

“War has begun,” Caesar tells the world in the teaser trailer for War For The Planet of The Apes. It echoes his farewell speech in the 2014 film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Since the 2011 reboot Rise of Planet of The Apes, 20th Century Fox has slowly teased us with the actual war to end all wars. A great slow burn considering that 2014’s Dawn grossed over $710 million globally. Next year, the war happens and it may be nothing but apes on horses shooting machine guns and rocket launchers.

Want any proof? It’s right here in the synopsis.

“Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel (Woody Harrelson). After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.”

Directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), War For The Planet of the Apes stars Andy Serkis, Gabriel Chavarria, and Steve Zahn. War begins next July, July 14 to be precise.
