Watch Chance The Rapper’s soul-stirring performance of “Blessings (Reprise)” on The Tonight Show, with D.R.A.M., Anthony Hamilton, Raury, & Ty Dolla $ign.

Chance The Rapper’s Grammy-nominated Coloring Book LP has already been praised for a number of reasons. For changing the Grammys game forever, for example. For breaking ground charting on Billboard.  And, perhaps more importantly, for very neatly combining the secular and spiritual worlds. Coloring Book is as close to a mainstream album that sounds like gospel as you can get.

Last night, Chancellor took a brief break from his Magnificent Coloring World Tour to perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonHaving previously performed “Blessings” on Fallon before, it was only right that Chance give The Tonight Show the first-ever late night performance of the “Blessings (Reprise)” off Coloring Book, which features D.R.A.M., Raury, Ty Dolla $ign, and Anthony Hamilton, amongst others.

Lil’ Chano from 79th brought D.R.A.M., Dolla, Raury, and A. Ham, along with his The Social Experiment band to Fallon, and with their powers combined, they turned the live “Blessings (Reprise)” into a downright Negro spiritual. The horns are jazzy, the handclaps will cause listeners to sway, and Chance’s melody – backed by his companions singing “Are you ready?” at intervals – give this version of “Blessings” an extremely soulful feel. Oh, and bringing the spiritual theme full circle? A gospel choir in white robes even invades the audience towards the performance’s end. Nobody was ready for THIS blessing, but sometimes they just fall into your lap, right?

Watch Chance The Rapper’s amazing live performance of “Blessings (Reprise)” for yourself up top. His Magnificent Coloring World Tour stops through Houston October 15th.
