The White House Now Has Its Own One-Day Music Festival [@whitehouse @sxsw] Brandon Caldwell September 2, 2016 Festivals, News South By South Lawn to take place October 3. At SXSW 2016, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama delivered keynote speeches. Inspired by their time down in Austin, the Obama administration has teamed with SXSW to hold its own small-scale festival at the White House. Per NPR, the one-day festival will be called South By South Lawn and it will take place on October 3. The event will consist of interactive, film, and music portions, similar to SXSW. “Musical performances will include well-known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences,” according to the White House website. Organizers will be taking online nominations of who should attend the festival through next Saturday (September 10) at 5 p.m. Eastern. South By South Lawn is being thrown in conjunction with SXSW, C3 Presents, American Film Institute (AFI), and the President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities (PCAH).
