Here’s a brand new Luke Cage trailer straight from San Diego Comic-Con

Marvel’s Luke Cage looks to be the third straight hit in the comic brand’s partnership with Netflix. All of the episode titles are based around Gangstarr songs. Ali Shaheed Muhammad & Adrian Younge are serving as the show’s composers. Even the first full-length trailer from this year’s San Diego Comic Con features Ol Dirty Bastard’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” as a soundtrack. Marvel’s second black superhero (Black Panther arrived in 1966) originally got his debut via Netflix’s Jessica Jones last September. Now his story can get told.

“Take my advice brother,” Frankie Faison tells Mike Colter’s Cage. “You should be helping people. Like those other fellas downtown.”

The trailer depicts Cage ripping off a car door and using it as a battering ram to bust into a building and beat up more than a few share of goons. Near the end of the clip he runs into House Of Cards player Mahershala Ali who plays lead villain Cottonmouth.

“You knock down a few doors in the projects and now you’re Harlem’s hero,” Cottonmouth laughs. Cage counters, “I’m just getting started.”

Executive producer and screenwriter Cheo Hodari Parker has complimented Luke Cage as “The Wire of Marvel television” and we’re inclined to agree. Colter proved his mettle with his show-stealing turn in Jessica Jones. A no nonsense superhero who was damn near invincible added to the dark layers of Jessica Jones. Now, it’s he who’s about to clean up Harlem, much like fellow Defender Daredevil has taken up in Hell’s Kitchen.

Joining Colter & Ali as cast regulars are Theo Rossi as Shades, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Simone Missick as Misty Knight. Guest appearances for Luke Cage include Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and Sônia Braga as Soledad Temple, Claire’s mother.
