An album release for a beat tape is always fun. This one is kind of special considering the beat tape, The Strange Sounds of Vincent Stevens, comes courtesy of local Houstonian Tony Dark (who is also celebrating a birthday); all of which will come together this week with a one-of-a-kind show. But, we will get to that.

Let’s talk about the tape, first. Coming in at 8 tracks, there is a laid back and harmonious feel throughout the entire thing. Tony Dark has established himself as a unique and detail oriented producer which is ever apparent on The Strange Sounds of Vincent Stevens. The first track features an Alchemist sample that required a couple listens before moving on. Between Dark’s use of organic sounds coupled with perfectly timed synths, this beat tape has me considering embarking on a rap career.

Another very dope element of The Strange Sounds of Vincent Stevens are the drops featured throughout the tape. Guilty Simpson, Frank Nitt, Torae and Steele all give Dark a cosign and head nod with short drops, proving once again the quality of music Dark is making. Yes, Dark is from Houston but the sound he creates is so well rounded that it is impossible to marginalize to any one area’s “sound”. There is definitely an East coast vibe through the tape but once again, it would be unfair to call it an “East coast sound”.

All in all, The Strange Sounds of Vincent Stevens – The Beat Tape is an amazing landscape for any artist.
But, check it out for yourself.

Now, about this party… Tony Dark will be celebrating the release of The Strange Sounds of Vincent Stevens – The Beat Tape (as well as his birthday) with a few familiar names joining him on stage; TrapBang, Alex Harris, Danny WattsGeorge Young and Brice Blanco will all be joining Dark, DJ BigReeks, DJ Demo and The Waxaholics for a very special edition of Waxaholics Thursdays at Alley Kat Bar & Lounge.
