A cursory look at the website for The Hive Society reveals the mission statement of the Houston-based service-oriented nonprofit as the following – “to practice and encourage philanthropy through music, culture, and creative arts.” Nothing in their mission statement says “change the game.”

And yet, that’s exactly what The Hive and its membership of “Bees” did last summer with “AXIOM,” a showcase of local talent and art ranging from photographers, to painters, to multi-medium artists, to even fashion designers.

Packing the East End Studio Gallery nearly to capacity, AXIOM allowed for artistry to be praised, connections to be made, positive vibes were promoted, and got many in Houston (and some from nearby cities who’d come in to support their friends) acquainted with the growing creative community right here in the H. Not bad for an arts showcase turned kickback whose base intent was to raise money.

Next Saturday, The Hive Society will attempt to build on last summer’s success with the 2016 iteration of “AXIOM.” It brands itself as “an event for Houston’s creative scene – a haven for first-adopters and trendsetters to network and view some of the best artistry our city has to offer.” Houston mixmaster and Hive affiliate DJ AudiTory will be on hand to provide sounds for the evening. Proceeds from the event will go towards The Hive Society’s future community service endeavors, though attendees will have the chance to purchase some of the art they see, as well.

Pre-sale tickets for “AXIOM 2016” can be purchased here for only $7, though attendees can also elect to pay at the door. The Hive Society’s AXIOM 2016 art showcase-slash-fundraiser takes place July 9th at East End Studio Gallery, 708C Telephone Road, 77023. Doors open at 7 PM.
