Kimbo Slice, MMA practitioner & street fight legend has died in Miami.

Kimbo Slice, the popular MMA fighter who rose to fame via YouTube videos in the site’s early days has died according to multiple sources. He was 42. A cause of death has yet to be determined. The news was met by shock in the MMA community as various outlets, fighters and more have offered their condolences.

The CEO of Bellator MMA confirmed the news, “We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family. One of the most popular MMA fighters ever, Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport.”

Slice was hospitalized near his home in Coral Gables, FL early Monday evening according to TMZ.

Slice’s last fight was back in February of this year at Bellator 149 in Houston where he squared off against Dada 5000 in a memorable bout. Though Slice won the fight, it was later revealed that he had tested positive for a banned steroids. He was widely regarded as one of the best “street fighters” and was definitely the most successful fighter to transition from the backyard to the Octagon. Slice’s move to MMA was met with skepticism at first though he built a resume as a knockout artist in promotions such as Strikeforce before moving on to a contract with the UFC and finally, Bellator.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Kimbo’s family. Rest in peace.
