Gucci Mane-Aubs-OVO Sound

Saturday night’s OVO Sound Radio set dropped a motherlode of summer music.

“‘Mike never tried to rap like ‘Pac, ‘Pac never tried to sing like Mike’/ were my Dad’s words to me when I asked him how to make it in life…”

Earlier this year, when Drake finally unveiled his VIEWS album to the world, the rapper premiered the LP on OVO Sound Radio along with an interview of sorts. In the interview, Drake described the process and method behind the records he chose for the album, and also insisted that he had “more new music coming” what with his Summer Sixteen Tour with Future on the way.

That “new music coming” promise was at least partially revealed Saturday night during Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio’s OVO Sound Radio set. The initial drawing factor for Saturday night’s episode was Drake’s promise on Instagram the night before that Gucci Mane would somehow be involved. What no one could’ve known, was that Guwop was just the tip of the iceberg.

It turns out that OVO Sound Radio premiered not just a brand-new collaboration between Aubrey Graham and the recently emancipated Radric Davis – on the summer banger in the making “Back on Road” – but two other tracks as well: a Justin Bieber-featured “One Dance (Remix)”; and a blistering “time in city freestyle” with “4 PM in Calabasas” peppered with obvious shots to one Sean “Diddy” Combs. It appears that Drake was sitting on a lot of heat that, for whatever reason, didn’t make it onto VIEWS. The rappin’ ass Drake the album was missing was far from gone, just apparently stashed in the vault.
