Robert Glasper x Miles Davis - Everything's Beautiful

Stream Robert Glasper’s Miles Davis tribute LP, Everything’s Beautiful, in full for the free.

At long last, Robert Glasper’s Miles Davis-inspired project, Everything’s Beautiful, is finally in stores and on digital outlets today. The album, which combines Glasper’s own sound with some of Miles’s more notable jazz classics – and a few others – has emerged as one of the surprises of 2016. That’s a common theme for the Houston musician’s releases: being slept on at first and then discovered after the fact (see, Black Radio).

Everything’s Beautiful benefited from timing, however, as the LP releases during the theatrical run of Don Cheadle’s Davis biopic Miles Ahead. For those still unsure of Glasper and friends’ capability to make modern jazz a “thing,” however, you can now stream Everything’s Beautiful completely free via Spotify.

Clocking in at eleven tracks deep, Everything’s Beautiful is propelled forward by its recent singles, “Violets,”Ghetto Walkin’,” and “Maiysha.” It’s not all on Glasper, as he’s brought a wealth of friends along to join him in his tribute to Miles: Erykah Badu, Laura Mvula, Bilal, Haitus Kayote, and even Stevie Wonder (on the amazing outro “Right On Brotha”) all make appearances. R&B group KING (fresh off their debut album dropping earlier this year) absolutely flourishes over Glasper’s instrumentation on “Song for Selim.” Glasper’s collab with Hiatus Kayote, “Little Church (Remix),” sounds almost spiritual in nature. And the Illa J-assisted “Can’t Hold Me Down” merges hip-hop and jazz in perfect harmony for a very smooth track.
