Jed The Fameless - Special (f. Bobby Earth, VRGO)

Houston emcee Jed The Fameless turns Jed The Lothario on “Special,” his new single featuring Bobby Earth and VRGO.

“Special,” the latest single from Jed The Fameless, marks a departure for the artist. Up until this point, the Houston rapper’s M.O. was drop clever punchlines with a range of cadences, whether ragged, slowed down, or otherwise. When last we heard from Jed, the emcee was still riding the high from his recent A Night With A Ghost album, a collection of surreal beats and solid rhymes. On “Special,” however, Jed adds some baritone to his voice and turns into a full blown heartthrob.

The four-minute track, produced by Bobby Earth (who also features on the song’s second verse), starts things out with an 8-bit keyboard before venturing into a more layered, ‘808s-ish sound. VRGO handles hook duties, giving Bobby Earth’s beat melody and setting the tone for Jed to step right in. The Fameless one makes his intentions plain – “Girl, I’m just saying that I like you/ I’d like to spend time with you,” Jed says on the track, outlining why the one he has his eyes on, stands out from the rest of the “corny” crowd. “Special” may easily be the smoothest track in Jed’s arsenal to date. But which one of these guys got Sade on Facetime? Forreal, though.
