The Roots give a little flavor to this year’s NBA Finals with “Show Me You’re A Champion

The Roots’ tie-ins to the NBA recently have been pretty notable. That’s their sound underscoring Dwyane Wade’s “Stay Cool” Gatorade commercial with Basketball Hall of Famer George Gervin. Now the Philadelphia band is taking their promotional efforts across television networks as their new song, “Show Me You’re A Champion” is the theme for the 2016 NBA Finals on ABC.

The “Show Me You’re A Champion” ad features a 30-second clip of the track as Black Thought raps, “I go from tragedy to majesty / the victory has been woven into my tapestry / This ain’t the type of opportunity that just appears / I made it here because I shed blood, sweat, and tears.” The scene around him evokes memories of kids doing their best imitations on the playground. Michael Jordan’s final shot as a Chicago Bull and Magic Johnson’s Baby Skyhook. There are also celebration shots of Paul Pierce, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, Wade and last year with Steph Curry.

Expect to see the “Show Me You’re A Champion” ad run throughout the NBA Finals as its set to begin on June 2nd. You can watch it below or via the official OkayPlayer site.
