The Game - Roped Off f. Problem, Boogie

The Game may have just dropped off a double album last fall, but he isn’t slowing down any time soon. The California emcee born Jayceon Taylor released a new single yesterday, “Roped Off,” and there’s something undeniably West Coast about it.

It might be the bass-heavy instrumental from The League of Starz on production, which sounds like pure ’90’s California G-Funk that would make Dr. Dre smile. It might be the presence of Problem and emcee on the rise Boogie The Beast, both of whom hail from Compton. Or, it might be all of these things, which come together in perfect sync for a Compton thang in the best way. Game bats lead off, and Problem follows suit, leaving closing duties to young Boogie who doesn’t disappoint in the finale verse. Old school sound meets new school flow, and there really are “no strings” needed to get down to it.
