Assassin’s Creed, the Ubisoft platformer turned box-office film finally saw its debut trailer released Wednesday. Thanks to Jimmy Kimmel Live, fans got their first glimpse as Michael “I Totally Didn’t Play Any Of The Assassin’s Creed Games” Fassbender in the titular role of well, the world’s most murdering avenging time traveler who can also do parkour. Instead of basing the film around the earlier games in the series, Assassin’s Creed takes Fassbender and the importance of the Animus all the way back to the discovery of the New World and the Spanish Inquisition.

Oh, don’t worry. Europe is still adjusting to this whole New World thing and still can’t shake old habits. Are there little homages to the game such as all the free-running, slow motion & convenient hay stacks to conceal yourself. Sure enough, there’s going to be a battle between the Assassins and the Templars (you know, eternal struggle for order) but at least we know with the Assassin’s Creed film, there won’t be as much repetition. For now, the Juno storyline seems pretty new and unique to the film and so far, it’s a well done trailer for a beloved game franchise.

Alongside Fassbender, the film sports stars such as Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Michael K. Williams & Brendan Gleeson. We’ll see how things end up when Assassin’s Creed lands in theaters December 21st.
