For a while, I didn’t know we were going to ever get “TRU” from Lloyd.

The last proper Lloyd album fans received was 2011’s King Of Hearts and since then, there have been a few sporadic singles such as “All I Need” & “On Call” with Big K.R.I.T. Before that? 2013’s “Telegraph Ave.” with Childish Gambino. In other words, it’s been a long while since the New Orleans boy with the pretty hair and one of the mid 2000s more underrated debut albums had gotten on wax.

As “TRU” confirms, Lloyd has been through some things in the near two plus years since we last heard from him. He admits that he lost a child and has been helping his sister take care of hers. He’s been battling legal situations to the point where his lawyers advise him not to even speak about the situations on a song. Even as he went back, grew his hair again and obtain a degree, Lloyd’s been wearing pain in his ink and on his skin for quite sometime now. Hopefully, these “TRU” confessions are something that leads to more from Young Goldie. He sees the proverbial light at the end, especially considering the gift he’s been given from up above.
