Since its arrival in Houston back in 2014, the #HashtagLunchbagHOU movement has shown one of the better, often-overlooked characteristics of the city – the giving spirit that resides in many of its residents. So inspired by the “Hashtag Lunchbag” community event that kicked off on the West Coast, #HashtagLunchbagHOU has spawned a number of installments and even expanded to include back-to-back appearances at SXSW in 2015 and 2016. Its mission is simple: to bring people together to assemble meals for Houston’s homeless population, in a fun environment of community and service.

Now, #HashtagLunchbagHOU is getting back to business with its “Summer ’16 Kickoff” event this upcoming Saturday. Attendees are once again encouraged to donate $10 in advance to cover the cost of food for assembling the meals, though attendees are also welcome to make their donation at the door. Houston’s own 93.7 The Beat radio station will be in the building for the “Summer ’16 Kickoff,” with DJ Shante on hand providing sounds for the event; and CooleyKnowsBest will handle hosting duties.

#HashtagLunchbagHOU’s Summer ’16 Kickoff goes down Saturday, May 14th, at Grooves Houston, 2300 Pierce Street, from 10 AM to 1 PM. Early RSVPs for the Summer ’16 Kickoff are open now through Friday, May 13th and can be completed here.
