Corinne Bailey Rae - Green Aphro

There’s something irresistibly sensual about “Green Aphrodisiac,” the second single from Corinne Bailey Rae’s upcoming third album, The Heart Speaks in Whispers. The nature-theme track is innocent enough in execution, with Bailey Rae cooing “Lost in your wonderland – green aphrodisiac/ Kiss me, your lips taste of honey” on the song’s hook. But her voice is almost orgasmic, and the tribal drums and saxophone keeping pace in the background make it a mood setter. Bailey Rae calls herself a “brand new gardener” on Twitter, but one can’t help but wonder that the song is about more than just rainbows and leaves.

Now, Corinne Bailey Rae has given her single a set of visuals to match, premiered by way of BET Soul. The music video adds to the wonder and seductive tone of “Green Aphrodisiac,” being sexy without sex. Bailey Rae and her cascading curls take center stage against a green-screen; she’s joined by two Black male dancers whose fluid movements initially are limited to themselves, but who soon engulf Corinne in their gentle touch and rhythm. The visuals also play to the song’s nature element, with shots of ferns and painted-golden leaves popping up as well.
