Ever since Blavity first broke the news of Southside With You, the upcoming film about Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date, I’ve been intrigued by the prospect of what the movie offers. An entire film centered around one moment would seem ambitious; but director Richard Tanne must know what he’s doing, because the film was extremely well-received at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

Now, Southside With You has an official debut trailer in advance of its nationwide release this fall. John Legend – whose production company Get Lifted, executive produced the film – posted the trailer by way of his Twitter account. Tika Sumpter and Parker Sawyers star as Michelle then-Robinson and Barack Obama, respectively, back in 1989 as they spend an entire day on Chicago’s South Side together. Tanne gives the film a nice retro feel; Sumpter looks great, and Sawyers, to his credit, has Barack’s “swagger” and mannerisms down to a “T.” Off the trailer alone, Southside With You might be the perfect summer date movie.

Southside With You lands in theaters on August 26, 2016.
