During the telecast of ‘LEMONADE’, her third official HBO special following her 2013 documentary Life Is But A Dream and the On The Run Tour in 2015, Beyoncé revealed that LEMONADE was actually a visual album. The album is available now via Tidal and you can stream it below.

As far as the film goes, Lemonade weaves in and out of New Orleans, the South, homages to the power of women, particularly black women and more. The mothers of Trayvon Martin & Michael Brown make an appearance in the film as well as the poetry and messages of Malcolm X, Warsan Shire & more. Most of the visuals are striking, if not cryptic which matches the tone of the album. Whereas Beyonce explored a sexual vulnerability and claimed freedom as the ultimate power, Lemonade digs further into loss, regret, pain, anguish and acceptance. Most of Twitter theorized that the songs on the LP dug into consistent tabloid rumors of infidelity from Jay Z. Others alluded that the album wove not just Hov’s misdirections but also Beyoncé’s father, Matthew Knowles. Clips of Beyoncé’s wedding to Jay Z as well as her mother’s recent wedding to Richard Lawson are included in the film, which is available for free streaming on HBO for the weekend. Kahlil Joseph, Melina Matsoukas, Todd Tourso, Dikayl, Rimmasch, Jonas Akerlund and Mark Romanek are all credited as directors on the Lemonade visual album.

The 12-track affair features Jack White, The Weeknd, James Blake & Kendrick Lamar. Producers include Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Jack White, Wynter Gordon, Melo-X, Ben Billions, Boots, Mike Dean, James Blake, Just Blaze, Diplo & more. During the hour long special, Beyoncé broke up the album into varying moments of grief & acceptance. The thoughts that will flow in regards to the album, the visual album and everything in between will be endless over the next few weeks, if not months.

Beyoncé & TIDAL couldn’t wait until the film was completely over to reveal the album existed. They dropped it 15 minutes prior to the end of the film with “Formation” playing the closing credits. Stream LEMONADE, the new album from Beyoncé now.

Update: Per an industry insider, Lemonade will be a TIDAL exclusive in perpetuity, as in yes, it will be exclusively a TIDAL release forever. — SPIN
